School Life (Part 4)

Homeroom

Students go to their homeroom at the end of the day when classes are finished. The teacher provides instructions about how to prepare for the next day.

Students take notes about tomorrow during the meeting in their notebooks, which are called "school diaries."

Parents and guardians also use these notebooks if they have any items to discuss with the teacher such as circumstances requiring their children to be absent, late, or leave early. You may call in the event of more urgent circumstances.

Children say "sayonara" to their teacher and friends before leaving. The same route is taken to go home. Children walk home together with friends that live nearby. They are required to go straight home.

Club Activities

Students that wish to do so may participate in club activities after the closing meeting. There are music clubs and sports clubs like soccer to choose from. Junior high schools have a wide variety of clubs.

Of course, not everything about school life in Japan has been covered here. However, many foreign national students and returnees have gone to school in Japan just like your child. Your child will fit right in, too, so don't worry.
