DJ beach parties will liven up the weekends of July to September, and this year, the pool will also be open from 6 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. for the Night Pool experience. Come with your family, friends, or partner to have fun at the pool!
*The Night Pool will be open from 17 August (Saturday) to 1 September (Sunday). Details will be available at a later date on the official website.
Every 4 and 5 August, around 20 mikoshi and teams of Ohayashi musicians from 10 towns in the city will participate in the Yaegaki Shrine Gion Festival. The designs of the mikoshi follow the region’s distinctive style. The sight of the mikoshi bearers, accompanied by the boisterous Japanese flute and drums, marching on and chanting “Anryaa doshita” with their strong voices is sure to excite those watching. Another distinctive trait of this festival is the splashing of cold water on the mikoshi procession.
Traditionally, women are not permitted to bear mikoshi. However, this outdated rule is no longer followed at this festival, and it has garnered attention as one of the rare instances within Japan in which women are permitted to bear mikoshi. On the evening of the 4th, in addition to the mikoshi borne by men, 10 mikoshi borne by women will also make their rounds.
The highlight of the festival will be the procession involving all the mikoshi on the 5th. The procession will depart from Yokaichiba Elementary school at 12 p.m. and parade through the streets of the city. From 4 p.m., the mikoshi will enter Yaegaki Shrine one after another and you can witness the strength exhibited by the mikoshi bearers as the atmosphere reaches a fever pitch.
Boso-no-Mura will hold a special summer event with the theme of “suzumu”, meaning to cool down, on 3 and 4 August (Saturday and Sunday).
Come enjoy the rambunctious atmosphere with activities such as workshops making summer items, ghost storytelling, and more! In addition to street performances, you can also paint windchimes, scoop goldfish, shoot targets, eat anzu-ame (apricot candy) and many other summer must-try food and activities.
Admission is free for those who come dressed in yukata or jimbei! Come experience a traditional Japanese summer at Boso-no-Mura!
