Chiba Prefecture has participated in Japan Day every year since 2005 when the partnership between Chiba Prefecture and the city of Düsseldorf first began. This was the first Japan Day in three years since the COVID-19 pandemic, and Chiba Prefecture set up a booth with the supported of many organizations including the German-Japanese Association in Niederrhein, Reitaku University, and Chiba University. The prefecture exhibited panels on the exchange between Düsseldorf and Chiba and set up corners for a janken (rock, paper, scissors) competition, origami craft-making, and calligraphy experience. Many visitors stopped by the booth, making it a great success.

Mayor Keller of the City of Düsseldorf visited Chiba Prefecture on September 12 for the first time since taking office in November 2020. In his first meeting with Governor Kumagai, they covered a variety of topics including the desire to focus on exchanges between the youths, who are the future, and the reaffirmation of the importance of deepening the relationship between both sides. On September 13, Mayor Keller, with his delegation, visited Kashiwa-no-ha Smart City and deepened his understanding of the Prefecture’s efforts in open innovation and support for startups in the life sciences.

Governor Kumagai attended “Düsseldorf-Abend” (Düsseldorf Evening), a reception held in Tokyo City for economic exchanges, co-organized by the City of Düsseldorf, Messe Düsseldorf and other organizations. This was the first time the reception had been held in three years, and it was widely attended by many people including expatriates of corporates operating in Düsseldorf, exhibitors of the trade fair in Düsseldorf, and those involved in international relations.

Through the “CHIBA Booth”, set up by the Prefecture with the cooperation of JETRO, four Chiba Prefecture enterprises were given the opportunity to find overseas partners for the development of sales channels, and new products and technology at “MEDICA 2022”, the world’s largest exhibition of medical devices held in Düsseldorf City.
