MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

We have entered the era of the aging population in tandem with the declining birthrate in Japan. Among the 47 prefectures nationwide, the percentage of the “post-war baby boomers” is particularly high in Chiba Prefecture. Therefore, Chiba Prefecture strives to provide its citizens with the most proficient and innovative health care system for both short and long-term needs.

The Faculty of Healthcare Sciences at Chiba Prefectural University of Health Sciences is comprised of four departments: Nursing, Nutrition, Dental Hygiene, and Rehabilitation (Divisions of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy). The faculty focuses on mentoring future nurses, including public health nurses, midwives, registered dietitians, dental hygienists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Thanks to this small-scale university, students learn to concentrate exchange ideas, collaborate in studies, and cooperate with many other researchers as well as future healthcare professionals of different disciplines.

I strongly believe that our students, upon graduation, will positively contribute to the healthcare system at the local level in Chiba, nationwide across Japan, as well as contribute outside the borders world-wide.

CURRICULUM

Please note that all courses are offered in Japanese. Native competency of Japanese is necessary to study at this university.

LIBERAL ARTS

The university offers liberal arts subjects to train well-rounded professionals with an emphasis on strong ethics. The variety of liberal arts subjects offered are categorized as, Human Understanding, Life and Environment, Information, Technology and Statistics, and Foreign Language (English).

SPECIAL COURSES

Special courses are compulsory courses for all students. The students from the four different departments are provided with opportunities to collaborate with each other, as well as with experts in various fields. The students receive off-campus training in small groups on-site at facilities in Chiba Prefecture. The “Experience Seminar” in the first year and the “Prefectural Health Promotion” in the second year provide a platform for the interprofessional as well as professional education. In their final year, students concentrate on the “Interprofessional Collaboration” training.

BASIC HEALTH SCIENCE SUBJECTS

Basic health sciences subjects include courses such as Human Mind and Body, Wellness and Health Science Systems, Pharmacology, Pathology, Food Education, and Introduction to Rehabilitation.

SPECIALIZED SUBJECTS

Each department provides specialized subjects through lectures, seminars, as well as practical training on and off-campus. The courses are designed to develop high-level professional skills in students with an emphasis on the importance of life-long learning.
